Hollywood is about to produce another wrestling-theme film, this time focused on the Von Erich family and starring popular actor Zac Efron. Deadline is reporting that Efron will join writer-director Sean Durkin for the filming of “Iron Claw”, a film about the true story of the Von Erichs and their rise and fall as one of wrestling's royal families.
A24 is producing and financing the project and the focus of the film seems to be to give more insight into what happened with one of wrestling's great dynasties. The Von Erichs had a huge impact on the professional wrestling industry in the 1960s and, even to this day, are remembered for their style and popularity. Unfortunately, they are also remembered for their tragic downfall.
The Von Erich family consisted of Fritz Von Erich (the promoter for World Class Championship Wrestling) and his sons David, Kerry, Kevin, Mike, Chris and Jack. All became popular names in the industry, except for Jack, who died at the age of six after drowning in a puddle. David Von Erich died unexpectedly in a hotel room in Japan, while Kerry, Mike, and Chris all committed suicide following David’s death. Kevin is the last surviving son.
It is not clear what role Efron will play in the film, but he is an intriguing choice for the movie as he's become well known for taking on some very dramatic roles of late. No official release date has been announced for The Iron Claw.

There's also talk that Hollywood is working on a film where Chris Hemsworth will play Hulk Hogan and Vince McMahon is rumored to be selling the rights to his story to the highest bidder. As fans have learned from the recent McMahon controversy and the popularity of docuseries like Dark Side of the Ring, there is a huge appetite among the fan base for these types of productions.
