Despite all of the rumors that The Rock might be returning or that Stone Cold Steve Austin might have received a big-money offer to appear this year and face The Head of the Table, WWE went with the logical choice and confirmed that The American Nightmare would take on The Tribal Chief at the Showcase of the Immortals. Roman Reigns will officially face Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania 39 as Cody tries to live out a childhood dream and win the WWE Undisputed Universal Championship.

Cody started out Monday Night Raw and talked about his win at the Royal Rumble. Saying he's been on a long road to get where he is now, he wondered if he would have told his 19-year-old self all the of trials and tribulations he would have to go through to get to WrestleMania. He said he wouldn't have changed a thing and that he's going to WrestleMania to prove there is more than one royal family. Cody said that Reigns might be The Head of the Table and the biggest star in the industry when WrestleMania comes and goes. What he won't be is the champion.

WWE later confirmed on social media that the match was set and fans will now wait to see what night of the two-night event the bout will go down.

Cody Has Earned His Way Here

The shiny idea might have been to put Austin or The Rock in this match, but Cody getting his shot to finally win the title is the right choice for the company. WWE will build towards this match, selling the idea that Cody is the one person who can finally dethrone Reigns who has held the title for more than 800 days.
