Roman Reigns' 1,000th Day As Universal Champion Falls On Night Of Champions

It felt like Roman Reigns' run with both WWE's World Titles would almost definitely come to an end at WrestleMania, but it did not. The Tribal Chief's years-long reign continues and he is fast approaching 1,000 days as Universal Champion. In fact, the exact day on which that milestone will be achieved may explain why WWE decided to have Cody Rhodes lose at WrestleMania at the expense of The Head of the Table's run marching on.

1,000 Days At Night Of Champions

It turns out day 1,000 of Reigns' time with the Universal Championship falls on the same day as Night of Champions. While that is definitely a coincidence – WWE might have months planned out but it isn't that prepared – the moment someone in an official capacity realized that would be the case, the decision would have been made to make Reigns remain Universal Champion until at least May 27.

Fans hopeful Rhodes would win at WrestleMania immediately resigned themselves to the fact WWE wanted Reigns to hit 1,000 days as champion since he is already so close. The longest-reigning champion of any description in WWE for 35 years, it now seems nailed on that Reigns will make his Universal Title run four figures. Not only because day 1,000 falls on Night of Champions, but that will likely be the next time he defends his titles.

No Reigns Until Night Of Champions

Backlash is next weekend, but Reigns will not have a match on the show. Rhodes and Brock Lesnar will likely be the ones who occupy the main event slot, a blockbuster match in which there isn't a title on the line. The next PLE will then be Night of Champions in Saudi Arabia. An event where every title will be on the line if WWE abides by the rulings it applied to the event during its last run which ended in 2015.

Having Reigns' title run end at exactly 1,000 days would be pretty special. So special that not doing it at WrestleMania might be forgiven, depending on who exactly faces The Tribal Chief, of course. The new World Heavyweight Champion will also be crowned that night. The frontrunners to win that championship slowly being revealed may well result in who will face Reigns at Night of Champions becoming more clear.
