Power up in these NYC residential buildings with electric vehicle charging stations

(Pixabay)Every April, the environment is on the minds of individuals, corporations, and government officials alike during “Earth Month.” To that end, the Environment Protection Agency (EPA) proposed a new set of climate regulations on Wednesday, April 12; chief among them was a new set of pollution standards for passenger cars and trucks, setting the limit on pollution so tightly that automobile manufacturers would have no choice but to sell a certain number of zero-emissions vehicles. This comes months after Governor Hochul ordered regulators to make changes necessary to phase out the sale of new gas-powered vehicles in New York State by 2035.

The changes proposed are highly daunting – The New York Times says the EPA’s new rules would require “nothing short of a revolution in the U.S. auto industry,” and Crain’s New York Business expressed concern that there aren’t enough charging stations to power the cars the governor and the president want to see on the roads. However, a number of electric vehicle charging companies in the city are rising to the challenge – a September 2022 study found that charging stations outnumber gas stations 10 to one in Manhattan, and that charging stations are rapidly taking hold throughout the five boroughs.

Some of those charging stations may be found in the amenity package of residential buildings. Not only does this show savvy developers recognizing the power of the green consumer, but a summer 2022 report in The Cooperator notes that there are state-sponsored initiatives for installing charging stations; therefore, it makes financial sense to include this amenity. We take a look at a selection of buildings in Manhattan and Brooklyn that offer electric vehicle charging stations.210-Warren-Street-01Tribeca Green (Eleven Visualization)
