This article contains spoilers for The Book of Boba Fett episode 7.

The Book of Boba Fett finale features Grogu taking on a rancor, and the moment showcases a significant problem with the series. Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison) was supposed to finally get his moment to shine in The Book of Boba Fett. The series tells the former bounty hunter's story in both the past and the present. Flashback scenes reveal Boba Fett survived his fall into the Sarlacc in 1983's Return of the Jedi and even befriended the Tusken Raiders. However, present-day scenes were all about the ex-bounty hunter's rise to take Jabba the Hutt's place as the Daimyo on Tatooine and take on the Pyke Syndicate.

In The Book of Boba Fett finale, Temuera Morrison's bounty hunter finally faces the Pykes with the help of Grogu, Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal), Fennec Shand (Ming-Na Wen), and the people of Freetown. All of Boba Fett's allies receive significant moments. Boba Fett takes down Cad Bane (Corey Burton) himself, Fennec Shand assassinates the treacherous mayor of Mos Espa, and the people of Freetown help hold off oncoming Pyke droids. The episode ends with Boba Fett rightfully taking his place as Tatooine's benevolent crime lord.

Grogu gets a significant moment in The Book of Boba Fett season 1 finale, which showcases an underlying problem for the show. In The Book of Boba Fett finale, Boba Fett rides his rancor into town to help defeat two troublesome Pyke Syndicate droids. However, Boba Fett eventually gets locked into battle with Cad Bane, leaving his rancor to run wild through Tatooine. Thankfully, Grogu uses his Jedi abilities to calm the rancor. However, by giving the moment to Grogu, the series shows The Book of Boba Fett was never truly about Boba Fett.

Grogu and Rancor in Book of Boba Fett

The Book of Boba Fett season 1 is more interested in telling an overarching Star Wars story than focusing on the bounty hunter. Calming the rancor could've been a significant moment for Boba Fett in the series. At the point where the rancor is running wild, Boba Fett has already defeated Cad Bane, so he could've flown in to show the people of Tatooine why he's meant to be their leader. Instead, the episode lets Grogu calm the rancor to showcase the character's new Jedi powers. The scene provides a reason for Grogu to appear in the finale, but it robs Boba Fett of a significant moment in his quest to rule Tatooine.

The scene is further proof that Boba Fett lost his own show. Despite the series title, the show didn't feature Boba Fett in two of its most significant episodes. The Book of Boba Fett episode 5, a critically-acclaimed story helmed by Bryce Dallas Howard, showcased Pedro Pascal's Mandalorian. Likewise, season 1's penultimate episode featured Grogu learning the ways of the Jedi with Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker. Nothing Boba Fett did in the series even compared to the events of the episodes. The series is more of an ensemble show than anything by the finale. Instead of showcasing the bounty hunter, The Book of Boba Fett always seemed more interested in telling whatever was the next Star Wars chapter.
