Backstage Details On NXT Personnel Being Unhappy With The Show [Report]

Several people involved in WWE NXT reportedly aren't having much fun with the show anymore.

Earlier this week, WWE Hall of Famer Beth Phoenix announced that she'll be leaving the NXT broadcast team following Sunday's NXT WarGames pay-per-view event. It has been reported that Phoenix may join her husband Edge on Raw and be part of the feud with The Miz and Maryse.

On a recent edition of Wrestling Observer Live (h/t Sportskeeda Wrestling), Bryan Alvarez suggested that Phoenix may not be the only person who leaves NXT, as he's heard from other people involved with the brand who don't find it "fun anymore." Here's what Alvarez had to say:

"It’s not like she couldn’t do the main roster feud with Miz & Maryse and also do NXT commentary. She has just decided she is done with NXT. Whatever that means, she says it’s due to family, but this also, again might not be the last person. Because no matter what you guys think about me or anyone else saying that it sucks — it does. There are people there who have told me that it’s just not fun anymore."

NXT has undergone several significant changes throughout 2021. The "Wednesday Night Wars" with AEW Dynamite — which spanned for 18 months from October 2019 to April 2020 — ended when WWE decided to move NXT back to Tuesday nights following WrestleMania 37 weekend. In September, WWE made several adjustments to NXT and renamed the show NXT 2.0.

The changes for NXT included a brand new logo, a different theme song and the arrivals of many new superstars, including Von Wagner, Bron Breakker and Tony D'Angelo.

NXT 2.0 Could Lose Multiple Key Stars Soon

WWE has released more than a dozen NXT talents dating back to August. One of the brand's most valuable stars, Adam Cole, left for the rival AEW promotion following the expiration of his contract.

The contracts of Johnny Gargano and Kyle O' Reilly — two of the brand's top main event stars — are reportedly set to expire soon. If one or both talents leave, it will be a giant loss for the NXT brand. WWE officials deserve credit for quickly building up several new talents under the NXT relaunch, but at the same time, it's imperative to keep established veterans around for the new era of NXT .
