Russian singer Alina Kozhevnikova posted a nearly hour-long apology video after being fired from 90 Day Fiancé over old social media posts that recently resurfaced, which mocked different races and religions. Alina began appearing on 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 5 in December with American co-star Caleb Greenwood. The racist posts made TLC publish a statement about how they’ve discontinued filming with Alina and that she won’t appear in the Tell-All, any more seasons of the franchise and any future episodes of Before the 90 Days. Episode 9 of the spin-off concluded Alina and Caleb’s storyline, in which he broke up with her because she’s a little person.

On January 11, Alina shared a throwback using a 2015 Instagram post of hers which used the N-word in the caption. It wasn’t long before more racist posts by Alina were found on her Facebook and Instagram pages. This included one from 2014 on Facebook where Alina described a racist party she had been invited to in her country by using the N-word eight times. And in another one dated 2017, she was seen wearing a sari alongside a caption that mentioned becoming a 134th wife. Yet another post from 2015 saw Alina gushing over Hugh Grant, but she seemed to be sad over his wife being Asian.

In the YouTube video shared on February 8, Alina claimed she was “told to keep silent and not say anything." However, now-former 90 Day Fiancé cast member Alina wanted to address anyone affected by her comments. “I never wanted to hurt anyone at all, and I am extremely sorry I did. I won’t ever use any of these derogatory words again. I acknowledge my fault and, once again, I am truly, sincerely sorry,” said Alina. She promised to work on her ignorance and educate herself. She asserted that she used the “qq” letters to spell the N-word in her first post because she’d seen it on Facebook and thought it was a “cooler” and “better way” to say “dang or darn instead of s***- shoot.” She said she took it from Kanye West’s “Gold Digger” and wasn’t doing a black face in the photo, according to her Medium transcript.

Former reality star Alina recalled claiming the N-word post was Photoshopped initially as she was “panicked and got scared.” Alina addressed the N-word part of the Facebook post by adding, “Again, I knew that the n-word wasn’t a good word. But at the time I didn’t fully know America’s history with racism and how bad that word is and how it’s used to discriminate and demean people.” She thought it was “more as a cuss word and like an exclamation” and “didn’t know it was used to attack people.” Alina apologized to the Muslim community by saying her "134th wife" comment was referring to the cartoon Aladdin, and that she "didn’t mean any hate towards Asian people" in her Hugh Grant-related caption. Alina exclaimed that people who are minorities can and do discriminate against other minorities. She doesn’t expect foreigners to know the derogatory words for disabled people in Russian.

In the meantime, 90 Day Fiancé fans feel Alina’s apology was filled with lots of excuses and no accountability. They are accusing her of trying to make money off YouTube by getting more clicks. Fans have concluded that Alina has tried her best to admit she isn’t racist. However, there are fans who now accept that Alina was ignorant and didn’t mean any malice. They hope that over time, Alina proves with her actions that she’s changed.
